QRD Spark N5 Controller Disassembly and Reassembly Guide
This guide explains how to disassemble and reassemble the QRD Spark N5 controller for basic repair, shoulder button replacement, and front shell replacement.
Before starting, read through the full guide once. Work slowly, keep all small parts organized, and avoid using excessive force during any step.
Tools Required
Prepare the following items:
- Small Phillips screwdriver
- Plastic pry tool
- Tweezers
- Clean, flat work surface
- Small container or tray for screws and parts
Important Safety Notes
Power off the controller completely before repair. Disconnect all cables and avoid touching the circuit board with wet hands or metal tools.
When removing cables, hold the connector itself. Do not pull directly on the wires. Internal wires, ribbon cables, plastic clips, and button parts can be damaged if handled roughly.
1. Remove the Rear Shell
Place the controller face down on your work surface.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the rear shell. Keep the screws organized so they can be returned to the correct positions during reassembly.
After removing the screws, insert a plastic pry tool into the seam between the front shell and rear shell. Carefully release the side clips, then separate the rear shell slowly.
Do not pull the rear shell away quickly. Internal wires may still be connected.
2. Disconnect Internal Components
Before removing any parts, check the internal layout of the controller.
If the battery cable, motor wires, or other connectors block the repair area, disconnect them carefully. Hold each connector firmly and pull it out gently without stretching or bending the wires.
Keep the internal parts in order so reassembly is easier.
3. Remove the Main PCB
Remove the screws securing the main PCB to the front shell.
Lift the PCB carefully from the shell. Watch the joystick caps, button contacts, ribbon cables, and vibration motor wires while lifting.
If the PCB does not move easily, stop and check for missed screws or attached cables. Do not force the board out.
4. Remove Front Shell Components
Once the PCB is removed, take out the front buttons and silicone conductive pads.
Remove the D-pad, ABXY buttons, function buttons, joystick caps, and any small support or decorative parts that need to be transferred.
Handle the silicone conductive pads carefully. Keep them clean and note their orientation, because incorrect placement may cause buttons to stop responding properly.
5. Remove the Touchpad and Front Shell Module
Remove the touchpad-related parts from the front shell.
If a ribbon cable is attached, handle it gently and avoid sharp bends. Keep the touchpad board, ribbon cable, and support pieces together for reassembly.
When replacing the front shell, transfer all reusable parts from the original shell to the new shell.
6. Remove the Shoulder Button Parts
Remove the shoulder button components from both sides of the controller.
These parts may include the L1/R1 shoulder buttons, L2/R2 triggers, springs, and support brackets.
Pay close attention to the position of each spring and pivot point. The shoulder buttons should move smoothly and return naturally after being pressed.
If a button is broken, loose, stuck, or does not rebound correctly, replace the damaged part.
7. Install the New Shoulder Button Parts
Install the replacement shoulder button parts into the correct left and right positions.
Make sure each trigger spring is seated properly. Press each shoulder button several times to check movement before continuing.
The buttons should press smoothly and rebound without sticking or rubbing against the shell. If a button feels tight, remove it and check the spring position again.
8. Reinstall Components Into the Front Shell
Place the front shell on the table with the inside facing upward.
Install the touchpad module and support parts first. Then reinstall the D-pad, ABXY buttons, function buttons, joystick caps, and other front shell components.
Make sure all button symbols face the correct direction.
Place the silicone conductive pads over the buttons. The pads should sit flat and fully cover the button contact areas.
9. Reinstall the Main PCB
Align the main PCB with the joystick openings, button contacts, and screw holes.
Lower the PCB into the front shell carefully. Check that the buttons and silicone pads stay in position while the board is installed.
Before tightening the screws, confirm that all cables and ribbon connectors are routed correctly.
Reinstall the PCB screws and tighten them gently. Do not overtighten them, as this may damage the plastic screw posts.
10. Reconnect the Cables
Reconnect the battery cable, motor wires, and any ribbon cables removed earlier.
Make sure each connector is fully inserted and secure.
Arrange the wires neatly inside the shell. Keep wires away from screw holes, clips, and moving trigger parts. Poor cable routing may stop the shell from closing correctly or damage the wires during assembly.
11. Close the Controller Shell
Place the rear shell back onto the controller.
Before pressing the shells together, check the shoulder buttons, triggers, wires, and internal components one more time.
Gently press the front and rear shells together until the clips align. There should be no visible gap between the two shells.
If the shell does not close smoothly, stop and reopen it. Check cable routing, button placement, and trigger alignment before trying again.
12. Reinstall the Rear Screws
Once the shell is fully aligned, reinstall the rear shell screws.
Tighten the screws evenly. Do not use excessive force, as overtightening may strip the screw holes or deform the shell.
13. Final Function Test
After reassembly, press every button to confirm normal movement.
Test the following parts:
- D-pad
- ABXY buttons
- Function buttons
- Joysticks
- L1/R1 shoulder buttons
- L2/R2 triggers
- Controller connection
Check that the shoulder buttons and triggers rebound correctly and do not get stuck.
If any button does not respond, reopen the controller and check the silicone pad position, cable connections, and PCB alignment.
